Here's a quick blurb:
Build for yourself
Take an existing product and make it 20% better
Turn something that takes 10 steps into 1 step
Democratize what the 1% have for the 99%
Create an identical product for a new market
Predominantly, ideas often fall into 1 of above 5 buckets.
Let's delve into each:
1. Build for Yourself
What problem drives you nuts?
Maybe it's related to Software, Fitness, Home goods, etc.
If you have that problem chances are millions of other people do too.
Tip: For 1 week, take 5 minutes each day to write down what problems frustrated you.
2. Take an existing product and make it 20% better
Most tools today aren't anything new. They take an old tool and make it better.
Modernize an old-school business, examples:
Figma. Photoshop for the cloud.
3. Turn something that takes 10 steps into 1 step
Make a process more efficient.
Imagine people are using 10 tools to complete 1 task. How can you consolidate those into 1 single tool?
4. Democratize what the 1% have for the 99%
Classic examples:
Uber - Only 1% were able to order cars to their door.
Airbnb - Only 1% were able to book an entire vacation home.
What can you democratize for the 99%?
5. Create an identical product for a new market
Notice hot products that would do well in other markets?
Examples:
MorningBrew newsletter for X
Airbnb for X
Uber for X
Most of the time there are business characteristics you can imitate, then innovate on.
And the most important part - Get started!
Hopefully, this helps you start building something people want.
